Authority in the Name of Jesus
We have authority in the Name of Jesus over all satan’s works; we have been given the full armor of God: “Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of His might. Put on the full armor of God, so that you will be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places. Therefore, take up the full armor of God, so that you will be able to resist in the evil day, and having done everything, to stand firm. Stand firm therefore, having girded your loins with truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; in addition to all, taking up the shield of faith with which you will be able to extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.” (Ephesians 6:10-17).
We have all strength and power with the Armor of God; we have the belt of truth, the breastplate of righteousness, the preparation of the gospel of peace on our feet, the helmet of salvation, the shield of faith and the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God. Satan cannot stand against the armor! Put the armor on every day and never take it off!
God turned the universe over to His Son:
“But of the Son He says, ‘Your throne, O God, is forever and ever, And the righteous scepter is the scepter of His kingdom. You have loved righteousness and hated lawlessness; Therefore God, Your God, has anointed You With the oil of gladness above Your companions.'” (Hebrews 1:8-9).
And then Jesus delegated His authority in His Name to us:
“And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.” (Matthew 28:18-20).
Everything you need is in that Name. You can use the Name of Jesus to act against the unseen realm. The disciples turned the world upside down using the Name of Jesus. The Name of Jesus is the sum total of what God is. He was the rock in David slingshot (I Samuel 17:40-49). He was the fourth man in the fiery furnace (Daniel 3:24-25).
The Name of Jesus is the Word: “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things came into being through Him, and apart from Him nothing came into being that has come into being. In Him was life, and the life was the Light of men. The Light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.” (John 1:1-5). The Word put the stars in the sky. The Word separated the Red Sea. And the Word was that baby in the manger that grew up to be sacrificed for our sins and is our Redeemer.
All the Names of Jesus reveal His Glory and Majesty: Savior, Deliverer, Redeemer, Jehovah, and Healer. “For this reason also, God highly exalted Him, and bestowed on Him the name which is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee will bow, of those who are in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and that every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” (Philippians 2:9-11).
Be slow to speak, but quick to listen. We can’t control our tongues: “For in many things we offend all. If any man offend not in word, the same is a perfect man, and able also to bridle the whole body. Behold, we put bits in the horses’ mouths, that they may obey us; and we turn about their whole body. Behold also the ships, which though they be so great, and are driven of fierce winds, yet are they turned about with a very small helm, whithersoever the governor listeth. Even so the tongue is a little member, and boasteth great things. Behold, how great a matter a little fire kindleth! And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell. For every kind of beasts, and of birds, and of serpents, and of things in the sea, is tamed, and hath been tamed of mankind: But the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison. (James 3:2-8).
“The night is nearly over; the day is almost here. So let us put aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light. Let us behave decently, as in the daytime, not in carousing and drunkenness, not in sexual immorality and debauchery, not in dissension and jealousy. Rather, clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ, and do not think about how to gratify the desires of the flesh.” (Rom 13:12-14, NIV). What does it mean to put on Christ? It means to use His Name and to assume His character. We give Jesus control of our life and then look to the Holy Spirit for guidance every day. And we remember that there’s a way out of temptation for anyone who wants a way out – God makes a way of escape and you can get out of temptation.
Have you turned over the control of your life to God? Do you ask God for guidance every day? Are you putting on the armor of God and gaining victory over satan? Are you walking in full authority using the Name of Jesus?
If not, don’t wait another minute. Do it today!
